Hi! We are Tyler and Alyssa Bowman, the owners and operators of Pacific Northwest Mushrooms founded in March of 2023.
Prior to receiving his Mycology degree from The Evergreen State College in 2013, Tyler was a successful Glass Artist, @bowmanglass on Instagram. Alyssa graduated with a B.A. in Marketing and Communications from Eastern Washington University in 2016, and was a Digital Marketing Manager at an ad firm.
Fast forward---The year was 2019. We got married, bought a house in Spokane Valley, WA, on a little less than an acre, Alyssa quit her job, we had a newborn son, and we tore out the grass in our backyard in order to build our family garden. Thank goodness we made those huge life decisions all in one year because the next year was the year of Covid-19 2020. That's when the specialty glass market took a turn, and we all of a sudden had a "covid-baby." We had to think of what to do next to support our growing family in a strange time. Growing nourishing food for our family and friends is a love we both share anyways, so that's when we decided to combine the skills we learned at university, with our love of growing nourishing food and make something of it. That was it. With a dream, the passion, and the drive, we built our climate controlled facility, and are working on checking off our goals.
At Pacific Northwest Mushrooms, we are passionate about healthy nourishing food, with an emphasis on mushrooms, and sharing that information with our family, friends and community. We support all local farmers, farms, chefs and restaurants that align with our passion. We believe that food is more than just sustenance. It is a way to conne
It is a way to connect with our family, friends and community. Spreading knowledge about permaculture, growing plants and mushrooms and why we should consider getting back to our roots, is a priority for us. It's about regenerative gardening. Mushrooms and plants are medicine. Consuming ethically grown mushrooms and plants can help us become healthier mentally, physically, and spiritually. Knowing that our food system is flawed, we feel that our passion is shared by most. This is the community we grew up in and where our children are growing up. We want to make an impact on our children and our future, even if it's a small one.
All of our products are made keeping in mind the impact we have on the earth. That's why we use organic compostable materials for substrate, compostable retail and wholesale packaging, and compostable packaging for our Grow-At-Home Kits. We try to minimize plastic use and harsh ink dyes where we can. After the fruiting cycle is complete,
All of our products are made keeping in mind the impact we have on the earth. That's why we use organic compostable materials for substrate, compostable retail and wholesale packaging, and compostable packaging for our Grow-At-Home Kits. We try to minimize plastic use and harsh ink dyes where we can. After the fruiting cycle is complete, we use the substrate material and spent mushrooms in our garden compost piles. It's a full circle cycle for us. We practice permaculture and regenerative gardening on our homestead. Check out our family garden on Instagram @bowmans_urban_homestead to see how our intention is to live a regenerative lifestyle growing nourishing food for our family, friends and community.
